Trimester 3 (Week 28 - 36)

Looking pretty in pink

Week 28: Weeks passed. I tried to stay positive by reading up on TTTS since doc say there is nothing I can do to improve the situation. People told me that mummy's mood will affect bbs mood, so i tried to dispel with the negative thoughts. I had to be monitored and scanned every week in case of any emergency, I had to be operated on ASAP. Then we received a phone call from Prof Ng, Gleneagles who told us that we had crossed an important milestone and that high chance the bbs are going to be all right, but it does not mean bbs are out of the woods yet, so got to continue with weekly checks. It was around this week that Prof decided to give me Hospital Leave till i pop as he felt that my tummy is v distended and tight - a sign that I may pop anytime. He wanted me to rest as much as I can. Doc expect me to deliver around week 34 (i.e. 1st week of Sept) though EDD is 10 Oct. If I could hold till week 36, all the more better. But week 34 is equivalent to week 36 for singleton baby, so doc think it would be fine too.

At Week 27 day 6 lying down position when the 'tsunami' hits again - lopsided tummy when my twinnies fight inside

At week 28
We started our buying spree (of bbs clothes, cots, necessities) during the weekends at Kiddy Palace, Mothercare. I cant really walk for too long and with H1N1, we would hit the mall at 11am and leave the place by 1pm after lunch.

Week 30: Mum started washing bbs clothes, so cute and so v nice smelling. Hubby also bought me bird nest (I could only eat bird nest at 3rd tri just to be safe). He woke up at 630am one day to soak and boil bird nest for me, so touched. He could only watch me eat the bird nest. Yum yum, boiled with love. I started having water retention at my ankles, quite painful and itchy. prof says the safest thing to do is to elevate the legs and to wear stockings...so, basically nothing else i can do lor..My weight at week 30 was 63kg (increase of 10kg so far, ganbatte!)

See the 'dead-fish' look alike depression on my ankle? Evidence of water retention...

Bbs clothes galore!!

At week 31

I delivered on Week 32 Day 3 on 19th August 2009 at NUH to my 2 little twinnies, 1.7kg and 1.4kg!!!

Trimester 2 (Week 13-27)

Generally, my Trimester 2 was a breeze - I was more energetic and alive.

Week 12-13: Down syndrome test result: (Trisomy 21 1:6470; Trisonmy 18: 1:5380; Trisomy 13: 1:22262) Results cleared. At the same time, the detailed scan revealed that i was expecting a Monochorionic Diamniotic Twins (aka identical twins, nonono, nothing to do with diamonds. For more info, read this: http://www.pregnancyquestionsandanswers.com/questions/qu_338-whats-the-difference-between-identical-and-fraternal-twins.html

Week 16: Started to hunt for maternity clothes from Paragon (Swell, 9mois), Bugis (Mothers En Vogue), Adelphi (La Blooming Chic) with my dear hubby. His role so far has been that of the chauffeur cum porter cum chance-to-use-credit card-to-earn-points payer...(as if)

Week 18: Felt some flutters at my tummy, think its what they call bbs kicking?? I am expecting 2 boy boys!! (Prof Ng and Prof Biswas were already suspecting that they are boys but din want to speculate further)No wonder they are so active inside...

Week 20: Had darn constipation again! I obviously din learn my lesson to eat more fruits... This time I went to a GP first and saw a weird 'replacement' doctor coz the usual doctor went for overseas conference. This retired doctor (i think) pressed my tummy and said she must feel if the head is pressing on my rectum.. Out of innocence, I asked "what head?" She replied curtly, "Bb's head lah, then your head ah?" I dunno if I should laugh or be insulted. I sms-ed my gynae that night about the prescription but he said medicine given is too strong and may cause uterine contraction. I should just continue his dosage of forlax (which I have been taking for 1 week lor)..But still nothing happens (remember? So near yet so far?) Decided to go A&E (again) to pump out the s*** with enema fleet..SHIOK!!! and I shall save you the agony of reading the details. I promised to eat 2 servings of fruits and veggies from now on. With that, I hope i dun have to re-tell any more constipation stories.

Week 21: We discovered that our twinnies are having TTTS (Twin Twin Transfusion Syndrome) where one recipient twin is getting more nutrients from the other donor twin and therefore, growing faster. (For more details, read: http://www.tttsfoundation.org/questions_explained.php) This is to be our main worry for weeks to come. Both gleneagles and NUH docs say the worst scenario would be both bbs cant make it.. coz if the donor bb gives all that it has, there is a possibility that it may die. V soon, the recipient bb will receive all the poisonous stuff from the dead foetus and eventually,it may come to harm too..The prognosis was not good...sad:( Having twins is not as easy a journey as what many perceived to be afterall, as in 2-in-1 deal etc...

Tummy buldge observed at week 22, in fact, few people would know i am pregnant by looking at my face and other parts of my body..coz nothing seems to have changed. My weight at week 25 stands at 59.4kg and bbs weight 824g and 671g respectively.

At week 18 (err, you know where is the front and back hor?)

At week 24 and 6 days

Bb decides to show you the Flying kick with his footsie..So cute!

Trimester 1 (Week 1-12)

Congrats! You are pregnant! That was week 5 when I found out I was pregnant. We were ecstatic! More happiness followed at week 11 when Prof told us he thought he saw 2 heartbeats on the u/s..."Or is it the same bb?" he wondered and mumbled to himself as he moved the scan over my stiffened tummy, anxious to know more about his 'discovery'. He finally confirmed that it was going to be twins and asked Dorothy (nurse) to submit the record to some statistics department ..."2 at 1 shot. Good deal," we tot....

My first trimester was a roller coaster ride...

Week 6: I had darn constipation, had to endure a week of hardened stool that simply refused to come out. Tried all methods recommended by doc, nurse, frens e.g. eat prunes, fruits, drink water....just short of using fingers to dig it out..could feel it so close the exit yet so far away..In the end, went to A&E to do enema fleet to pump it out, after sms-ing Prof for permission.

Then I had nauseas too, but lucky not too bad, no hugging by the toilet bowl type of nauseas.. Just the usual no appetite especially at night. Will tell mum to cook this and that for dinner, but in the end, just simply no appetite when dinner comes... Favourite food : spicy food...My weight dropped from 54kg to 52kg.

Week 10: For reasons unknown still, I had massive bleeding with clots in office one day. It was a real drama!! I was laughing with my colleagues when I suddenly felt something drop out from down under..I quickly went to toilet to take a look, fearing the worst. By then, I was already dripping blood like how a vampire would from his teeth... I was frantically washing the toilet floor and thinking die!! I din bring hp or pad..how?? lucky my colleague saw my stained seat and came to ask if i was ok...and she saved me by bringing along my barang barang for me to make my quickest escape to my gynae. Prof did a scan and lucky found that both bbs were fine and what I needed was bedrest...and so I did.

What a trying trimester !!!!
